La Eixample is a district in Barcelona known for its distinctive grid layout and remarkable modernist architecture. The district was designed by the architect Ildefons Cerdà in the mid-19th century as an expansion of the medieval city of Barcelona.
We walk through the extensively designed Barcelona urban blocks and criss cross through the hexagonal shaped city blocks witnessing a hierarchy of open spaces ranging from small courtyards to large urban parks.
Exploring La Eixample provides a visual feast of modernist architecture, with its unique urban planning and a concentration of some of the most celebrated buildings in Barcelona. The district is not only an architectural showcase but also a testament to the city’s cultural and artistic heritage.

Continuing our journey through the lens of Antoni Gaudi, we visit another enchanting architectural and landscape marvel by the master - ‘Park Guell’. Commissioned as private residences for the wealthy, this converted public park is no less than a landscape from a fantasy movie.
The park is a fantastical space featuring vibrant mosaics, whimsical sculptures, and organic architectural elements. It offers panoramic views of the city as well.




Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Família is a basilica, and is one of the most iconic works of architect Antoni Gaudí.
Antoni Gaudí dedicated much of his life to the Sagrada Família, and it stands as a testament to his architectural genius and innovative vision. The basilica attracts millions of visitors each year and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and truly a must visit whilst in Barcelona.

We start our day with an urban walking reflection of Barcelona’s future- 22@ district in Poblenou. Witness the transformation of a former industrial district into an innovation and knowledge cluster. The juxtaposition of old and new architecture in this district reflects Barcelona’s commitment to adaptability and progress.
As part of our aim to exposing students to different models of architecture and design education, we plan a visit to the Institute for advanced architecture of Catalonia (IAAC).
Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe is a must visit for fans of modern architecture. It is a seminal work in the modernist move- ment, showcasing simplicity, open spaces, and a seamless integra- tion of architecture and nature.
